Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dr. Vivian an MD?
Dr. Vivian is NOT a medical doctor; she is a naturopathic doctor. Naturopathic medicine is not licensable in NJ, but she holds a license in Connecticut. She works with your medical providers and healthcare team for integrative health education and to support healing and prevention.
What should I expect when working with Dr. Vivian?
The goal of naturopathic medicine is to create the conditions necessary for healing to occur. The premise of naturopathy is that the body is self-healing given the right conditions. Dr. Vivian helps you understand the root cause of your health concerns by helping you understand the best dietary patterns for your body, potential environmental factors impacting your health and exploring subconscious patterns that are keeping you unwell; using a combination of functional labs, a thorough health history and other naturopathic assessments, she will help you understand the status of your health and how to eliminate any obstacles that may be in the way of healing.
Do I have to get bloodwork?
Bloodwork including functional lab testing provides important information to better assess your current state of health and create the best indicated treatment. It is recommended to bring any recent lab work (within 6 months) to your first visit for a more complete assessment. Dr. Vivian may indicated other labs that may be necessary to have a better understanding of your health status.
Why doesn't my doctor run some of your labs?
Many labs used in this practice are considered specialty labs or preventative health labs. Insurance companies do not cover these types of testing. As a result, your allopathic provider will likely not use them.
Will my insurance cover your services?
No. Naturopathic medicine is not covered under insurance in the state of NJ. This practice is self-pay only.
